"I am the truth I believe - part of the divine nature - I am made of time, memories and the marks of what I know, have seen and lived [...] Questioning who we are, at first sight, reveals itself as something strictly personal, but it is precisely through this questioning that the face of what we are before others is also recognised. We are attributed a power of self-knowledge that has its unique definition questioned from the moment that our existence is beyond just ourselves.&nbsp;[...]&nbsp;Resulting from a proposal of creation under self-reflection and self-representation, the video presents a narrative that transits from an intimate sphere to a sphere of manifestation, in a certain way "self-limited". Braga, Portugal. An internal journey through the constant reconfigurations of a particular and intimate space that fulfils its duty to transform and shape itself in a distinct and personalised way. An inaugural portrait of an active consciousness that knows little about what it will come to know, but that even so, insists on the attempt at assimilation. Just as each person has a unique way of articulating their ideas and thoughts, ‘The divine psyche’ brings forth the assumption of its own mind, its own active and constant processes of reasoning, with an intimate and unpredictable character that borders on the unknown, even to the thinking self. It is in this portrayal of a "mysterious cognitive movement" that microscope images taken from water and mud samples of a pond located in Brazil are brought into the video installation, establishing an association between two unfamiliar spaces. By understanding water and mud as elements in constant "motion" through the development of living organisms, this ecosystem is depicted in the video to be linked to the mind, where the articulations and connections of thought take place, highlighting the respective "movements" of these two spaces - cognitive evolution and ecosystem. Cultivamos Cultura, São Luís, PT - 2022] Como modelos estruturados não apenas pela relação com o mundo real, mas também pela capacidade do indivíduo de modelar e simular processos mundiais em sua mente, de uma forma única e particular, os mental models&nbsp;evidenciam e permitem a personalização dos processos de pensamento de cada indivíduo. Tal como cada pessoa tem uma forma única de articular as suas ideias e pensamentos, ‘A divina psique’ traz a suposição de sua própria mente, de seus próprios processos de raciocínio ali ativos e constantes, com um caráter íntimo e imprevisível, que beira o desconhecido até mesmo ao próprio ser pensante. É neste representar de um "misterioso movimento cognitivo" que imagens de microscópio retiradas de amostras de água e barro de uma lagoa localizada no Brasil são trazidas para a instalação de vídeo estabelecendo uma associação entre dois espaços desconhecidos. Ao entender a água e o barro como elementos em constante "movimento", pelo desenvolvimento de organismos vivos, este ecossistema é trazido como imagem para o vídeo a fim de associá-lo à mente, onde acontecem as articulações e conexões do pensamento, evidenciando os respectivos "movimentos" destes dois espaços - evolução cognitiva e de ecossistema. In this work, Sally Santiago draws from childhood accounts of older generations, conveyed through overlaps or small lapses in memory, inherent to the act of recollection. Referring to events that took place around 1950 on an Atlantic island, the three episodes now serve as the foundation for the three chronicles presented here, as scenarios where a long journey of signs unfolds—an ebb and flow of ideas and images—between a past that expands and recreates itself and a present that absorbs and fictionalizes. The artist fosters the openness of multiplicity and the expansion of the realm of possibilities, where the appropriation of memories fuels the sensitive perception of new actions and landscapes, both concrete and emotional, embodying an experimental alternative to contemporary speed and a certain present-day inability to truly see and feel. Gnration, Braga, PT - 2024] A instalação audiovisual Crónicas visuais de onde não estive propõe pensar sobre determinadas facetas do espaço ficcional e narrativo através da construção de realidades particulares. Neste trabalho, Sally Santiago parte de relatos de infância de pessoas de gerações mais antigas, transmitidos através de sobreposições ou pequenos lapsos de lembrança, próprios do ato da recordação. Reportando-se a acontecimentos ocorridos entre em 1950 numa ilha do Atlântico, os três episódios servem agora de base para a construção das três crónicas aqui apresentadas, enquanto cenários onde se estabelece uma longa travessia de signos, vaivéns de ideias e imagens, entre um passado que se dilata, recriando-se, e um presente que se permeia e ficciona. A artista promove a abertura da multiplicidade e multiplicação do território do possível, onde a apropriação de lembranças serve o impulsionamento de perceções sensíveis de novas ações e paisagens, tanto concretas como emocionais, corporizando uma alternativa experimental à velocidade contemporânea e a uma certa incapacidade atual de olhar e sentir. Through a repetition of the revived practice and the substitution of materials, we have sunlight giving way to the heat of the welding machine, the transition from natural to artificial light, as well as the structure that holds everything together and ensures that that reimagined creation can be seen again. This new embroidery, now on cotton sheets, reverberates a new body and a new time, which rescues a space that was once inhabited with great affection, but which now has a new look. Através de uma repetição da prática revivida e da substituição de materiais, temos a luz solar a dar espaço ao calor da máquina de soldar, a passagem da luz natural para a artificial, assim como a estrutura que guarda tudo junto e garante que essa criação reimaginada possa voltar a ser vista, outra vez. Esse novo bordar, agora em folhas de algodão, reverbera um novo corpo e um novo tempo, que resgata um espaço já habitado, com muito carinho, mas que agora ganha um novo visual. But despite the passage of time, the genetic and geographical imprint that denotes a curious tracing of the past, I am still being bathed in the same old sun. The days that end and begin again, in their incessant dawn cycles, ensure that the marks of what has passed are still visible. "Solar Cartographies" recreates geographical records of family migrations and imagistically composes reimagined routes. The paper is prepared with a ferrous compound that is highly sensitive to light and is exposed to the sun, overlaid with drawn acetate sheets and concentrations of earth. The sunlight passes through the areas not covered by this negative made of drawings and earth, and a chemical reaction occurs in the exposed areas, giving rise to cyanotypes which were later dyed with a solution of black tea and alcohol. Just as the marks left by the sun imprint a timeless reflection on this geographical history, the ancestral artistic practice, which came to me through many sewing hands, could not avoid embroidering new cartographies. As a reflection of my first artistic practice, learning to embroider on banana leaves. Questioning the very weave of time becomes an instinctive task, like a sincere invitation to touch the (in)conscious surface of what covers us from ourselves. On the skin, the heat and the marks of what has passed and is still passing. Mas apesar da passagem do tempo, da marca genética e geográfica que denuncia um rastreio curioso do passado, ainda sou banhada pelo mesmo sol de sempre. Os dias, que se findam e reiniciam, em seus incessantes ciclos de amanhecer, garantem que as marcas do que passou ainda sejam visíveis. "Cartografias Solares" recria registos geográficos de migrações familiares e compõe imageticamente percursos reimaginados. O papel é preparado com um composto ferroso altamente sensível à luz e é exposto ao sol, sobreposto por folhas de acetato desenhadas e concentrações de terra. A luz solar atravessa as áreas não cobertas por este negativo feito de desenhos e terra, e ocorre a reação química nas áreas expostas, fazendo nascer as cianotipias que posteriormente foram tingidas por uma solução de chá preto e álcool. Assim como as marcas deixadas pelo sol imprimem um refletir atemporal nesta história geográfica, a prática artística ancestral, que chegou a mim por muitas mãos costureiras, não pôde deixar de bordar as novas cartografias. Como um reflexo da minha primeira prática artística, o aprender a bordar em folhas de bananeira. Questionar o próprio tecido do tempo passa a ser uma tarefa instintiva, como um sincero convite a encostar na superfície (in)consciente daquilo que nos cobre de nós mesmos. Na pele, o quente, e as marcas do que passou e ainda passa. It's funny how we're always the "us," the same "us," in the same routine walk of those who don't realize they're walking hand in hand with the illustrious thoughts of existence. A curious recognition, of someone who would never resemble the nonagenarian invented by the Karamazovs, who continues with questions of empty answers weighing on his head, while his heart burns from the received kiss. When has anything similar been seen? Or event better, how did we not see it? Who knows if the insignificance of existing, which screams its questions to the heavens, will one day meet the brilliant impression of being the great inquisitor. Who knows if in the insignificance of a day, it happens to rain so much and the leaves become so wet that the terrestrial mollusk decides to come out to crawl, and leave the trail of its daily questions around. Who knows after all if this is not an insignificance. Who knows, maybe the grace is in giving space and placing oneself for now as the inquisitor of the days here. Until the burning kiss satisfies more than an answer given. É engraçado sermos sempre o nós, o mesmo nós, no mesmo caminhar rotineiro de quem não percebe que está a andar de mãos dadas com os ilustres pensamentos da existência. Da nossa. Um reconhecer curioso, de quem jamais se assemelharia ao nonagenário inventado por Karamázovs, que segue com as perguntas de resposta vazia a pesar-lhe a cabeça, enquanto queima-lhe o coração pelo beijo recebido. Quando é que se viu coisa semelhante? ou melhor, como é que não vimos isso? Quem sabe se a insignificância do existir, que grita suas perguntas às alturas, um dia se encontra com a brilhante impressão de ser o tal grande inquisidor. Quem sabe se na insignificância de um dia calhar de chover tanto e de as folhas umidecer até que o molusco terrestre resolva sair pra rastejar, e deixe o rastro de suas questões diárias por ai. Quem sabe afinal isso não seja uma insignificância. Quem sabe a graça esta em dar espaço e se colocar por enquanto como inquisidor dos dias aqui. Até que o beijo ardente sacie mais que uma resposta dada. Mesmo que já estejamos todos tão velhos.
